Materials we build with
- Steel (galvanized and powder-coated) — the workhorse for picket, panel and privacy gates. Strong, repairable, and the finish holds up to salt if chips are touched up.
- Aluminum — the same styles at half the weight and no rust, which is why we suggest it for automated gates near the road. Smaller operators, less strain on hinges.
- Wrought iron and ornamental steel — arched tops, scrollwork and finials. Heavy and formal; we build these on strong posts and specify the operator to match.
- Wood on a steel frame — cedar or treated boards fastened to a welded frame so the gate stays square as the wood moves with the seasons.
- Vinyl and composite — low-maintenance privacy and ranch-rail looks, again on a metal frame for anything wider than a walk gate.
- Chain link — practical gates for yards and lots, with heavier frames and hinges than the big-box kits.

Built for Ohio winters
Most gate failures we repair trace back to how the posts were set. Freeze-and-thaw cycles lift anything shallow, and a post that moves half an inch turns into a gate that drags. Our standard for gate posts is concrete footings below the local frost line — around 36 to 42 inches in Cuyahoga County — with drainage at the base so water does not sit against the steel. For slide gates we prefer cantilever designs in snow-prone locations, and for track gates we set the track on a proper base with drainage so it stays level. Hinges and rollers are specified for the weight of the gate with margin, not at the limit, because a gate that is easy to move by hand is easy on its operator.
Residential driveway gates

Chain link fences and gates
Along with gates we install chain link fencing for yards, side lots and small commercial properties, including double-drive gates for vehicle access and walk gates with self-closing hinges. Chain link is inexpensive to build and easy to repair, and with heavier posts and properly tensioned fabric it looks straight for years instead of months.
Custom fabrication
Odd openings, curved driveways, a gate that has to match an existing fence — we fabricate gates to the opening rather than making the opening fit a stock gate. Frames are welded, ground and finished before they leave the shop, so the joints do not become rust points.

Installation questions
How long does a gate installation take?
From the first visit to a finished gate, typically two to four weeks: a few days for the estimate and material order, fabrication time if the gate is custom, then one to two days on site. Posts set in concrete need to cure before the gate is hung, so an install is usually two visits a few days apart.
Do I need a permit for a driveway gate?
It depends on the city and on whether the gate is part of a new fence. Many suburbs around Cleveland require a fence permit and have rules on height and setback from the sidewalk. We tell you what your city requires and handle the drawings for the application when one is needed.
Should I choose a swing gate or a sliding gate?
Swing if you have a level driveway and room in front of the gate; slide if the driveway slopes, is short, or the gate would swing into the street or the garage. Cantilever slide gates are our usual recommendation where snow is a problem because nothing touches the ground. The comparison table above goes into detail.
Can the gate be automated later?
Yes, and it is much cheaper if you decide now: we run conduit for power and for the safety devices while the trench is open and set posts sized for an operator. Adding the opener later is then a short visit. See gate openers & access control.
