Local notes from the truck
Parma's older neighborhoods have plenty of brick pillars and ornamental iron gates from the 1950s and 60s; most can be re-hung and automated rather than replaced, and we keep the hinge plates to do it. Along the lake in Lakewood, Rocky River and Bay Village, salt spray is the enemy, and aluminum or galvanized steel earns its keep. Out toward Strongsville, North Royalton and Medina the driveways get longer and the gates get wider, which is where cantilever slide gates and solar-assisted openers come into their own. Everywhere, the frost line is the same 36 to 42 inches, and posts set shallower than that are the source of most sagging gates we see.
