Gate types we work on
The right gate depends on the opening, the slope of the driveway, how much room there is to the sides, and how much snow you expect to push around. This is how the common designs compare:

Residential and commercial work
For homeowners the job is usually one driveway gate, sometimes with a matching walk gate: a repair that has been put off, an opener for a gate that has always been manual, or a new gate to replace one that has finally rusted through. We size everything for the driveway you have — slope, snow, and where the plow pushes it.
Commercial customers — apartment complexes, contractor yards, storage lots, church and school parking — need gates that open hundreds of times a day and access control that tenants and drivers can actually use. - Measure the opening post to post, and note whether the driveway slopes up or down through it.
- Look at the sides. Room beside the opening favors a slide or cantilever gate; room in front favors a swing.
- Find power. An outlet or panel within reach makes automation simple; otherwise we plan a trench or solar.

Questions
What is the most common gate repair you do?
Sliding gates that stick or grind, followed closely by swing gates that sag. Both are usually rollers, hinges or posts rather than the opener, which is why we look at the gate itself before we blame the electronics. Details are on the gate repair page.
Do you install gates for fences you did not build?
Yes. We hang new gates on existing fence lines all the time — the main thing we check is whether the end posts are strong enough and set deep enough to carry a gate. If they are not, we set new gate posts and tie the fence back into them.
Can a manual gate be automated later?
Usually, if it was built with that in mind: solid posts, good hinges or rollers, room for the operator, and power nearby. When we install a manual gate we can rough in the conduit so adding an opener later is a small job instead of a dig.
