Gate Repair & Gate Openers
A smaller side service for customers who already know us: sliding and swing gate repairs, gate operators, keypads and remotes.
Garage doors are our main work, and Greenbriar Gates & Garage Doors still takes on gate repair and gate opener work as a smaller side service for customers who already know us. If we have worked on your gate before, or you are a garage door customer with a driveway gate that has started to stick, sag or ignore its remote, call and tell us what it is doing.
Gate problems we still fix
| What you notice | Usual cause | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Sliding gate sticks, grinds or stops | Worn rollers, debris or ice in the track, a bent track, a stretched chain | Replace rollers, clear and straighten the track, re-tension or replace the chain |
| Swing gate sags or drags | A failed hinge, a heaved post, a leaf that has lost its bracing | New hinges, a brace or turnbuckle, re-hang and level the leaf |
| Gate will not latch | Misaligned latch or strike, a sagging leaf | Re-align the hardware and correct the sag |
| Opener dead, humming or erratic | Power, control board, limits, safety inputs, a binding gate | Diagnose in order, repair or replace the failed part |
| Remote or keypad not working | Batteries, receiver, a cut wire, lost programming | Test, re-program, replace the receiver or run new wire |
Sliding and swing gate repair
Sliding gates fail at the rollers and the track. Rollers flat-spot and seize, and once they drag, the operator stalls and the chain takes the strain; anything that gets into the channel — gravel, leaves and above all packed ice — makes it worse. Swing gates fail at the hinges and the posts: a leaf that drags at the latch side has usually lost a hinge pin or a post has moved, because in Cuyahoga County the frost line sits about 36 to 42 inches down and shallower posts shift every spring. We replace rollers, hinges and chain, straighten heaved track, brace a racked leaf and re-align latches so the gate closes with one hand.
Gate openers, keypads and remotes
Swing gates are usually driven by a linear or articulated arm on each leaf, sliding gates by a single operator at the post. When the gate itself is sound and the opener is the problem, we work through it in order: incoming power and the transformer, the control board and its fuses, the limit settings, the safety inputs — photo eyes and edges — and finally the motor and drive. Most calls end at a blocked photo eye, drifted limits, a weak backup battery or a failed capacitor. Keypads, remotes and receivers are tested and re-programmed or replaced, and an opener can be added to a sound manual gate.
Safety note: automatic gate operators are covered by the UL 325 safety standard, which calls for monitored entrapment protection — photo eyes, safety edges or both — wherever a person could be caught. If a stuck gate keeps trying to run, use the manual release and switch the operator off: a stalled motor overheats quickly.
Gates we have worked on
Asking about a gate
Call (440) 732-4323, or use the request form and choose "Something else": tell us it is a gate, whether it swings or slides, what it is doing, and whether we have worked on it before. A photo of the gate and the operator, sent by email to office@greenbriargatesdoors.com, helps us bring the right parts. For garage doors, start at the services overview.
Gate questions
Do you take gate work from new customers?
The gate side of the business is kept small and mostly serves customers who already know us. If you are new and your gate needs attention, call and describe it; you will hear straight away whether we can take it on.
Can you put an opener on a gate that has always been manual?
Usually, if the gate is sound: square, on solid posts, and swinging or rolling freely by hand. An opener only hides a mechanical problem for a while, so a gate that drags or binds is fixed first. Power nearby makes it simpler; a light-duty gate far from an outlet can sometimes run on a solar panel and battery sized for a Cleveland December.
Is an old gate worth repairing?
If the frame is straight and the posts are solid, repair almost always wins: hinges, rollers, chains, latches and operators are replaceable parts. When the frame is rusted through at the joints or the posts have to come out anyway, you will hear that before you spend money on parts.
